Unscheduled Power Cuts Spark Protest in Nilakamberu

Malkangiri, 8th Aug 2025: Residents of Nilakamberu have been deeply troubled for several days due to frequent, unannounced power cuts. Despite repeated complaints to the electricity department, no action has been taken so far.

Today, frustrated villagers gathered and gheraoed (surrounded) the electricity office. The incident occurred at the TPSODL (TP Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd.) office in Balimela, Malkangiri district.

According to reports, the Sadar Panchayat of Nilakamberu village under Korukonda block has been suffering from daily unannounced power cuts for several days — typically from 10 AM to 5 PM. When locals asked the electricity officials about the issue, they received no satisfactory response.

Unable to bear the situation any longer, the villagers surrounded the electricity office demanding answers. Later, some officials attempted to pacify the agitated crowd, and the situation gradually calmed down.

SDO Bishwakesan Pradhan then came out of his office and assured the villagers that there would be no more unannounced power cuts in the coming days. He also promised that if any power outage occurs, prior information will be sent via loudspeakers.

It is worth noting that not only Nilakamberu, but several nearby villages—such as MV-51, MV-52, MV-33, MV-34, Potrel, Puruna Chimtapalli, Chitapari-4, Bandiguda, Subarnapur—are also reportedly facing similar unannounced power disruptions.
