Odisha Leads the Way with a Plastic-Free Picnic Awareness Campaign

CM Majhi Launches ‘Single-Use Plastic-Free Picnic Campaign 2025’ to Protect Odisha’s Environment

Odisha has taken a decisive step toward environmental conservation with the launch of the “Single-Use Plastic-Free Picnic Campaign 2025”, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The statewide awareness initiative, organized by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), aims to curb plastic pollution at picnic spots, tourist destinations, and public spaces across the state.

Addressing citizens, the Chief Minister urged residents and visitors alike to actively participate in the campaign and adopt eco-friendly practices, particularly during the peak picnic and tourism season. The campaign will continue until 31 January 2026, focusing on preserving Odisha’s natural landscapes and promoting responsible public behavior.

Protecting Nature Through Collective Action

Odisha is known for its scenic beaches, hills, forests, waterfalls, and heritage sites, which attract thousands of visitors every year. However, the increasing use of single-use plastic during outings has emerged as a major environmental concern. Discarded plastic items not only spoil the beauty of these locations but also threaten wildlife, soil quality, and water resources.

The campaign emphasizes that protecting nature is a shared responsibility. Citizens are encouraged to enjoy picnics and travel without leaving behind waste, ensuring that public spaces remain clean, safe, and dignified.

Saying No to Single-Use Plastic

A core objective of the initiative is to promote the complete avoidance of single-use plastic items such as disposable plates, cups, carry bags, and plastic packaging. Instead, people are encouraged to use reusable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly alternatives like cloth bags, steel containers, and refillable water bottles.

By making mindful choices, individuals can significantly reduce plastic waste and contribute to long-term environmental sustainability.

Clean Picnic Spots, Responsible Citizens

The Chief Minister highlighted that maintaining cleanliness at picnic and tourist locations reflects civic sense and respect for nature. Litter-free public spaces improve tourism appeal, protect ecosystems, and create a healthier environment for communities.

The campaign urges visitors to carry back their waste, segregate recyclable materials, and dispose of garbage responsibly. Local bodies, volunteers, and community groups are also being encouraged to support cleanliness drives and awareness programs.

Building a Sustainable and Green Odisha

The “Single-Use Plastic-Free Picnic Campaign 2025” is a step toward Odisha’s broader vision of environmental protection and sustainable development. Active participation from students, youth groups, self-help groups, tourism stakeholders, and local communities is expected to play a key role in the campaign’s success.

With strong leadership and public cooperation, Odisha aims to emerge as a model state in plastic waste reduction and environmental conservation.

A Call for Environmental Responsibility

As picnic season brings people closer to nature, the campaign serves as a reminder that enjoyment and responsibility must go hand in hand. By rejecting single-use plastic and adopting sustainable habits, citizens can help preserve Odisha’s natural heritage for future generations.

A cleaner picnic today ensures a greener Odisha tomorrow.
