Angan Ka Utsav and 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah Celebrated in Bhubaneswar, Highlighting the Importance of Nutrition and Early Childhood Care

Bhubaneswar,  Oct 3 [UDN}:The state-level ‘Angan Ka Utsav’ and the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) were observed in Bhubaneswar, with emphasis on child nutrition, early childhood care and the holistic development of children.

Addressing the programme, the dignitaries honoured Anganwadi workers, Anganwadi helpers and ASHA workers for their dedicated service at the grassroots level. The frontline workers play an important role in delivering nutrition, healthcare and child development services to families across Odisha.

The programme also witnessed interaction with young children attending the celebration. Their creativity, enthusiasm and participation were appreciated during the event.

It was highlighted that Odisha has secured the first position in the country in Aadhaar verification under the Poshan Abhiyaan, which was described as a reflection of the commitment and dedication of the women working at the grassroots level.

The programme stressed that the first 1,000 days of a child’s life are extremely important for physical, mental and overall development. Ensuring adequate nutrition and proper care during this period is not solely the responsibility of the mother. Fathers and all members of the family also have an important role to play in providing a healthy and supportive environment for children.

The programme further highlighted the need to protect children from excessive mobile-screen exposure in the present digital age. Families were encouraged to connect children with stories narrated by grandparents, outdoor games, book reading and nutritious food, including a balanced ‘Tricolour Thali’ representing a variety of healthy foods.

Initiatives such as ‘Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi’ and ‘Sukhad Lalan Palan’ were emphasised as important approaches towards ensuring the comprehensive development of every child.

The event called for collective efforts by families, frontline workers and society to ensure that every child receives proper nutrition, care, education and protection, with the broader objective of building a healthy, safe, prosperous and developed Odisha.
