30th January 2025: The Odisha government has launched the “Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha” initiative, a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming rural areas and fostering long-term development across the state. Spearheaded by the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, the initiative focuses on creating a foundation for rural progress through targeted infrastructure and community-driven projects.

Under this plan, each year will bring new development projects at the block level, focusing on areas that will have the most impact on rural livelihoods. The government has committed to substantial investments in these areas, with ₹5,000 crore earmarked for rural development over the next five years. These projects will be shaped through discussions and decisions made within village assemblies, ensuring the needs and aspirations of the local population are at the heart of the development process.

During a recent speech marking National Integration Day, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi shared his strong belief in the transformative potential of this program. He emphasized that the joint efforts of both the central and state governments will lead Odisha into a new era of growth. In the next five years, he predicts the state will experience a “golden era” of development, with progress being made at twice the speed.

The Chief Minister also stressed the crucial role of villages in Odisha’s overall development, stating, “Our villages are the heart of our state and nation. The progress of Odisha depends on the progress of our villages.” This vision reflects the government’s commitment to empowering rural communities, equipping them with the resources they need to lead their own growth and prosperity.

With the focus on inclusive development, the “Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha” initiative is set to create a sustainable and vibrant future for Odisha, where every village becomes a hub of opportunity and growth.
