Kabi Jayanti Celebrated in Barpali with Felicitation of Three Scholars

Bargarh, 14th Aug 2025: The birth anniversary of Swabhaba Kabi Gangadhar Meher will be celebrated on August 9 at his sacred birthplace, Kabi Tirtha Barpali.

On this occasion, three distinguished scholars will be conferred the Gangadhar Saraswat Samman. The decision was finalized in a special session of the Odisha Sahitya Parishad, as informed by the Working President of the organizing committee, Dr. Shukmuni Meher.

This year’s awardees are:

  • Prof. Kumud Ranjan Panigrahi
  • Prof. Ashok Kumar Dash
  • Dr. Kulamani Behera

Prof. Dash, who has long served in the Odia Language and Literature Department of Sambalpur University, has shaped the futures of thousands of students while remaining deeply devoted to literary pursuits. His notable works include Kahi Ta Nuhen Bharati Re, Sahitya Kosh, Kathut Odia Shabda Kosh, and Madhumaya Gangadhar.

Prof. Panigrahi is renowned for his research in folk traditions, folk literature, Odia poetry, ancient Odia prose, and literary reinterpretations.

Dr. Kulamani Behera earned his doctorate from Sambalpur University for his thesis on Swabhaba Kabi Gangadhar Meher in the Light of Romantic and Contemporary Thought. His writings have been widely published in literary journals and received high acclaim.

The announcement of these three scholars as this year’s Gangadhar Saraswat Samman recipients has created much enthusiasm in literary circles.
