Kosagumuda, Feb, 3:The traditional Mandei Yatra was celebrated today with full rituals at Atigaon in Kosagumuda block of Nabarangpur district.
Hundreds of ceremonial staffs (deo lathi), wooden seats (kurchi), and palanquins from nearby villages gathered at one place. After receiving the sacred command garland (Agnya Mala) from the village’s presiding deity, all the village deities were worshipped. Subsequently, the ceremonial staffs, seats, and palanquins were taken in a grand procession around the village.
The chief priest of the local deity temple, along with community functionaries such as Shira, Chalana, and Ganda, were present and performed the rituals according to tribal traditions.
It is believed that by worshipping and pleasing the village deities, the area remains free from diseases and the upcoming harvest turns out to be prosperous.
Members of the Mandei Committee jointly supervised all arrangements. In the evening, cultural programs were organized, and the gathering of thousands of devotees created a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
