Bhubaneswar, May 14 – The Government of Odisha has received nearly 35 lakh applications under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) as the deadline for application submission draws to a close. According to Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda, the application window will officially close on May 15, after which no further applications will be accepted.
Following the closure, the state will begin an intensive door-to-door verification drive to identify eligible beneficiaries, as part of a process termed ‘Awas Plus 2’. Survey teams will be formed at the block level to ensure fair and accurate identification of genuine beneficiaries.
Currently, construction has been completed for around 3 lakh houses under the scheme, although road connectivity remains an issue in nearly 500 locations. Notably, the central government has extended the application deadline for the PMAY survey three times, offering ample time for enrolment.
In parallel, the state government has targeted the construction of 1,00,917 houses under the Antyodaya Housing Scheme. A detailed district-wise distribution plan has already been prepared, and District Collectors have been instructed to submit final beneficiary lists by May 15 for approval by the Chief Minister’s office.
A directive issued on April 24 by Deputy Secretary Kulamani Mishra instructed district authorities to complete and submit the finalized lists on time, ensuring that only genuinely eligible households are included.
With the last date fast approaching, authorities are in a final push to complete administrative procedures and ensure that the housing benefits reach those who truly need them.
