Union Food Secretary Reviews PDS and Paddy Procurement in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Union Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sanjeev Chopra has instructed officials to improve the paddy procurement process by ensuring vehicles are directly sent from mandis to mills. This directive was given during a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja at Lok Seva Bhawan.

The meeting focused on enhancing the efficiency of the paddy procurement and Public Distribution System (PDS), aiming to reduce delays and address existing challenges. Senior officials, including Food Supplies principal secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Civil Supplies Corporation MD Shubham Saxena, and others, participated in the review.

Singh shared that 91% of beneficiaries under the National and State Food Security Acts have completed their e-KYC. To improve access in remote areas, 341 government-run fair price shops are being provided with internet services. Additionally, e-KYC registration for 12 lakh beneficiaries is ongoing, while door-to-door verification is being conducted for 30 lakh others.
