Bhubaneswar, May 29: In a strategic move to boost economic growth along its long coastline, the Odisha government has unveiled plans to develop modern maritime infrastructure, including the construction of a cruise terminal.
To attract global investment in the maritime sector, the state’s Commerce and Transport Department has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from international developers and investors. The deadline for EoI submissions is June 23.
The initiative includes proposals for deep-sea ports, cruise terminals, marinas, multi-purpose ports, shipbuilding and repair facilities, and container terminals along Odisha’s 574-kilometre coastline, stretching from Balasore to Ganjam. Eight key locations have been identified for potential port development.
A major investors’ meet is scheduled in Bhubaneswar on June 5, to present investment opportunities in the coastal sector. Notably, proposals have already been received from Shyam Group and Century Plyboards India Ltd to set up a cruise terminal near Bali Harachandi in Puri.
Additionally, plans are underway to establish new ports at Inchudi and Bahuda, as well as a ship recycling hub in collaboration with Paradip Port, with an estimated investment of ₹4,000 crore. The state government has also approved a ₹550 crore ship repair facility in Jagatsinghpur, proposed by Chowgule Lavgan Shiprepair Pvt. Ltd.
This initiative marks Odisha’s push to transform its coastal belt into a dynamic hub for tourism, trade, and maritime industry, strengthening the state’s role in the Blue Economy.
