Bhubaneswar, July 14, 2025 – If you’ve been noticing darker skies and heavier downpours lately, you’re not alone. Odisha is in for a wet spell, thanks to two low-pressure systems brewing nearby.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation formed today over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha–West Bengal coast. Around the same time, another low-pressure area was detected over northwest Madhya Pradesh. Together, these twin weather systems are expected to trigger intense rainfall across much of Odisha over the next couple of days.
What to Expect
Over the next 24 to 48 hours, several districts — including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Sundargarh — are likely to witness very heavy rain and gusty winds up to 30–40 km/h. These areas have been placed under Orange Warning, which means residents should stay alert and take precautions.
Other districts like Anugul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Rayagada are under a Yellow Warning, signaling the possibility of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Rainfall So Far
Some places are already feeling the effects. In the last 24 hours:
TH Rampur in Kalahandi recorded 7 cm of rain,
Kantapada in Cuttack saw 6 cm,
And towns like Shalpada (Keonjhar), Rasgovindpur & Chandua (Mayurbhanj), Tensa (Sundargarh), and parts of Nayagarh received around 5 cm.
A Word of Caution
While rainfall may ease slightly after the afternoon of July 15, light to moderate showers could continue in parts of the state until July 18. The IMD advises people in the affected areas to stay updated with weather reports, avoid unnecessary travel during intense showers, and ensure basic precautions are in place.
Odisha’s monsoon is truly here — and it’s best we stay weather-wise and rain-ready.
