Bhubaneswar,18th Aug 2025: The BJD has stated that under the leadership of former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Odisha government had initiated the process of establishing semiconductor units in the state.
The proposal for setting up two semiconductor units in Odisha was adopted during the 2nd edition of ‘Make in Odisha’ in December 2022, following which, in 2023, a dedicated policy for establishing semiconductor and ancillary infrastructure was formulated.
The BJD welcomed the Central Cabinet’s recent decision for the establishment of two semiconductor units in Odisha, noting that this was the outcome of earlier groundwork.
1. In 2023, the BJD government formulated a dedicated semiconductor policy.
2. The proposal was originally adopted during the 2nd Make in Odisha conclave.
3. The foundation was laid by the BJD government, said BJD Senior Vice President Devi Prasad Mishra.
Speaking at a press conference at Shankha Bhavan on Tuesday, Mr. Mishra said that to attract investors for setting up the semiconductor industry in Odisha, the government had already initiated several measures—holding discussions with investors, and working on creating the necessary ecosystem to develop Odisha into a modern hub for electronic manufacturing.
While announcements for semiconductor projects were made in other states in 2024, Mr. Mishra expressed hope that the Odisha government would now move forward with greater urgency to build the required ecosystem for the establishment of these units.
