Protest Erupts in Kotpad as Farmers Block Road Over Fertilizer Scarcity

Kotpad, 18th Aug 2025: Today, farmers of the Kotpad region staged a road blockade on National Highway-66 in front of the Kotpad LAMPS office, demanding adequate supply of urea fertilizer. The farmers, forming human chains and sitting in protest, alleged that despite waiting like “Chetak horses ready for battle,” neither fertilizer is being supplied nor any support extended. They questioned how farming can continue and how they can sustain their families without fertilizer.

At present, the LAMPS office has only 1,720 bags of urea, whereas the farmer population in the area is over 5,000, making distribution impossible on an individual basis. To resolve this, LAMPS Managing Director Raje Jendra Nayak announced before the media that distribution would be carried out panchayat-wise across the 17 panchayats of the Kotpad area.

Later, Kotpad Tahasildar Tinkle Sethi, Additional Tahasildar Parshuram Bhatra, IIC Paramananda Sunani, and other police officials arrived at the spot to pacify the situation and requested the farmers to lift the road blockade.

Finally, in the presence of all officials and before the farmers, it was declared that fertilizer will be supplied on a panchayat-wise basis, following which the situation was brought under control.
