Puri, 26th Aug 2025: An accident occurred at the Jagannath Ballav multi-level parking facility in Puri when a Bolero vehicle along with its driver fell from the second floor.
The Bolero overturned after the fall, leaving its front portion severely damaged. The driver was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital and is reported to be out of danger after treatment. The injured driver has been identified as Sanjay Sethi of Balabhadraprasad village, Bhadrak district.
How the accident happened
According to reports, at around 10 AM on Sunday, a Bolero (OD-01AC-4516) carrying 10 passengers from Bhadrak reached the multi-level parking. The passengers, belonging to the family of Kishore Behera from Dhamra, were dropped off on the ground floor and proceeded towards the Jagannath Temple.
Meanwhile, driver Sanjay, following the parking security guard’s instructions, attempted to park the vehicle on the second floor near Narendra Pokhari (tank). While reversing, his foot accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.
As there was no protective barricade, the vehicle sped backwards and fell two floors down. Hearing the loud crash, other vehicle drivers and locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured driver.
Later, the Town Police used a JCB machine to lift the Bolero from the site.
Public anger over safety lapse
The absence of safety railings in the parking lot has sparked resentment among vehicle owners and locals.
District Collector Divyajyoti Parida stated that an inquiry will be conducted into the circumstances of the accident and necessary action will be taken.
