Malkangiri ,29th Aug 2025: The Malkangiri District Adivasi Mahasangh, representing 15 tribal communities, submitted a memorandum with 14 major demands to the District Collector under the leadership of its president Bandhu Muduli. Presidents, secretaries, and office-bearers of the respective tribal societies accompanied him. A press meet was also held later, where the issues were highlighted.
The Mahasangh stressed that if these problems are addressed urgently, it will significantly improve the condition of Adivasis in education, healthcare, livelihood, economy, and culture.
Key demands included:
- Immediate distribution of forest land pattas and group pattas to tribals and forest dwellers.
- Ensuring timely supply of urea fertilizer to farmers, who are currently deprived.
- Stopping illegal encroachments in tribal areas.
- Since Malkangiri is a Fifth Schedule area, only tribal villages should be recognized as revenue villages.
- Land pattas for displaced families affected by development projects.
- Proper compensation for land acquisition for railway projects.
- Action against cases of atrocities and injustice on tribal girls in schools/colleges.
- Addressing healthcare gaps and ensuring fair prices for forest produce like mahua, sal leaves, kendu leaves, etc.
- Strict action against illegal sand ghats and stone quarries.
- The Mahasangh urged both the district administration and political leadership to take these issues seriously.
Among those present were: Bandhu Muduli (President, District Adivasi Mahasangh), Bansidhar Muduli (President, Didai Samaj), Mukunda Majhi (President, Bonda Samaj), Bhisma Khul (President, Gadaba Samaj), Hari Golari (Secretary, Kandha Samaj), Samaroo Nayak (President, Bhumia Samaj), Devendra Khul (Secretary, District Adivasi Mahasangh), Babul Murmu (President, Santal Samaj), Gupta Durua (President, Durua Samaj), Era Padiami (Secretary, Koya Samaj), Budra Karwami (Treasurer), along with several other community leaders.
