Bhubaneswar, 3rd Sept 2025: In an effort to make the Government of India’s ambitious PM Surya Ghar scheme more accessible and widespread among consumers, the state power distribution company Tata Power has announced a special initiative under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model. As part of this, a dedicated 1-kilowatt Rooftop Solar (RTS) system scheme was launched today.
Typically, setting up a 1-kilowatt solar system costs around ₹65,000 to ₹75,000. However, under the ULA model, consumers will need to pay only a one-time amount of ₹5,000, making solar energy adoption more affordable. Speaking on the occasion, TPNSDL official Mr. Gajanan Kale stated that this scheme is targeted towards those consumers who wish to adopt solar power but face hesitation or confusion due to technical or financial concerns.
Through this scheme, a 1-kilowatt solar system can generate up to 100 units of electricity per month, leading to an estimated annual savings of around ₹5,000 on electricity bills. This will help households reduce their monthly power expenses consistently and will contribute significantly to achieving Odisha’s renewable energy targets.
To avail the scheme, consumers need to obtain a permit and pay a one-time fee. Tata Power will ensure end-to-end service including installation, quality assurance, and post-sales service. The company will also provide a 5-year warranty on the system equipment and a 25-year warranty on the solar panels.
This initiative is expected to empower households, support clean energy adoption, and further the state and national goals of sustainability and energy self-reliance.
