Support Extended to Late Journalist Tapan Hial’s Family

Koraput, 18th Sept 2025:  A financial assistance cheque has been provided to the family of late journalist Tapan Hial following the tragic demise of his wife, Tulasi Mandi, who was serving as a CRP (Cluster Resource Person) under the Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) since 2021 in Girlingumma Panchayat under Dashmantpur Block, Koraput district.

Tulasi Mandi had suddenly fallen ill and was treated at Koraput District Headquarters Hospital. Later, while continuing treatment at home, she sadly passed away.

During her lifetime, she had enrolled in the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana’ (PMJJBY) through the State Bank of India (SBI), Dashmantpur branch, by paying a premium of ₹436.

Following her death, Rakesh Panda, the branch officer of SBI Dashmantpur, handed over a cheque of ₹2,00,000 to her husband Gupta Mandi as part of the insurance benefit.

Several individuals and officials were present and assisted in the process, including:

  • Bank staff: Lokanath Nayak
  • OLM Block Coordinator: Firoz Kumar Lima
  • Other contributors: Dharitri Sethi, Jaspin Horizon, Snigdha Rani Hial, and members from the LSP team.

The event also received support from local platforms of Dengaguda and Fundaguda villages, within the same panchayat.

This gesture highlights the importance and impact of government insurance schemes like PMJJBY in providing timely support to bereaved families.
