Nabarangpur District Branch of Odisha Journalists’ Union Convenes General Council Meet

Nabarangpur, Nov 27: The general council meeting of the Odisha Journalists’ Union (OJU), Nabarangpur district branch was organized under the chairmanship of District President, Shiv Shankar Tripathy. The meeting was attended by State Vice President Rakesh Gupta and State Organizational Editor Bank Bihari Bishoyi as the chief guests.

The meeting involved detailed discussions on various future plans and programs of the union. State Vice President Rakesh Gupta guided members on how to organize each block in the district, particularly in rural areas, to strengthen journalistic outreach and effectively contribute to OJU activities. State Organizational Editor Bishoyi discussed how the state organization can promptly raise journalists’ issues and concerns with the state government through proposals. He also shared successful initiatives undertaken by the union in other districts.

District President Tripathy encouraged all members to strengthen the district-level organization and reviewed solutions to problems faced by journalists in recent times. The meeting was attended by Vice President Debashish Dash, District Organizational Editor Benu Gopal Rao, and legal advisor Purna Chandra Mahapatra, who discussed how journalists can carry out their work while staying within legal boundaries.

At the beginning of the program, District President Shiv Shankar Tripathy invited the guests to the stage, and a lamp-lighting ceremony was conducted in front of Lord Jagannath, in memory of late journalist and founding member of OJU, Ranjan Pattnaik, followed by a two-minute silent prayer for his departed soul.

Since Rakesh Gupta (State Vice President) and Bank Bihari Bishoyi (State Organizational Editor) were elected as the district’s two main representatives in the state organization, they were honored with bouquets and ceremonial greetings.

Inspired by the union’s activities, several new journalists joined OJU during the meeting, including:
Durga Prasad Padhi, Tapan Kumar Pattnaik, Kumud Nayak, B. Tarun Kumar, Arjun Tandi, Jitendra Hati, and other journalists from marginalized communities.

The meeting was also attended by around 50 senior district and block-level journalists, including Hari Bishoyi, Sunni Rath, Mihir Shankar Patra, Sushant Panda, Debi Prasad Mahapatra, Dayaram Panka, Bhavani Shankar Panda, Nigam Sahu, Sudhanshu Pradhan, Gauri Mani Nayak, Parbin Gupta, Utpanna Takiri, Das Prasad Bishoyi, Jagannath Bishoyi, and concluded with thanks from Bihar Kant Pattnaik.
