Sambalpur, Dec, 02:Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is seeing a rise in tourist numbers. To accommodate tourists, five homestays have been started in the nearby Dhara-Rokusum village, outside the sanctuary itself, as there were no other arrangements for accommodation.
The state government has approved ₹71.19 crore to provide various facilities for tourists and ensure wildlife safety. While some of this amount will be spent in the current financial year, the remaining will be utilized in the next year, according to the Hirakud Wildlife Division.
With financial assistance of ₹16 lakh from the sanctuary authorities, five more homestay rooms will be set up in Dhara-Rokusum village. Additionally, 10 more homestays will be arranged.
Outside the sanctuary, 20 modern tents will be constructed in green grassland areas for tourist accommodation. A canopy walk will be established at tree-top level, 300 meters long and 100 meters high, becoming a major attraction.
Other facilities to be funded include old safari vehicles, cruise boats, eco-tourism projects, booking counters, and amenities on Hirakud Island. Temporary glass and wooden meditation centers and nature education classrooms will also be constructed, each accommodating 80 people.
For wildlife safety, a 100-kilometer-long specialized trail will be built. According to Hirakud Wildlife DFO Anshupragya Das, this trail will help reduce conflicts between humans and wildlife.
