Bhubaneswar, Dec, 10: The Revenue Minister has clarified that there will be no new formation of tehsils or panchayats at present. Earlier reports suggesting otherwise were incorrect, and the minister emphasized that existing administrative divisions will continue as they are.
Previously, the process of recognizing villages and adjusting boundaries was carried out under rules dating back to 1991, and some changes have already been implemented in certain villages. The government continues to honor the official recognition of villages granted earlier and will not make sudden changes without due procedure.
Villages identified for potential changes or upgrades are currently under review. After thorough census and verification processes, proposals for any new tehsil or panchayat formation will be submitted to the government. Once finalized, the government will form new blocks and local governance bodies accordingly.
The minister emphasized that the ongoing administrative process may take several months, and until it is completed, no new tehsil or panchayat will be created.
