Jharsuguda, Jan, 22: With the support of the Jharsuguda District Agriculture Department, a district-level ‘Mandia Mandi’ (millet procurement centre) was formally inaugurated at the Bhatlaida Kisan Bhavan premises under Laikera Block.
The Jharsuguda MLA, Tanka Dhar Tripathy, attended the programme as the chief guest and inaugurated the mandi by lighting the ceremonial lamp. On the occasion, he addressed the farmers and highlighted the benefits of millet cultivation, its market system, and how farmers can become economically self-reliant through government incentives and support.
Among the dignitaries present were District Chief Agriculture Officer Pradeep Kumar Nanda, ARCS, Jharsuguda, Bhatlaida Sarpanch Dushmant Bhoi, Sahaspur Sarpanch Mrs. Sukanti Jaipuria, Samiti Member Manmohan Kansari, and IIC, Laikera, Krushna Chandra Meher, who attended as honoured guests.
On the first day of the mandi, more than 100 farmers participated, and approximately 100 quintals of millet (mandia) were procured. The procurement amount will be directly credited to the farmers’ bank accounts within seven days.
At the end of the programme, Block Agriculture Officer Mrs. Madhusmita Mishra proposed the vote of thanks.
