Shrimandir Marks Makara Chaula; AI Film Unveiled at Astaranga’s Anakar Gadi Brahma Temple

Bhubaneswar Feb, 3: The Shree Jagannath Sanskriti Prachar Sansthan today dedicated an AI-based video film at the holy feet of Lord Jagannath during the Jagannath Mahotsav, following the restoration of the historic Anakar Gadi Brahma at Astaranga. The film has also been released on YouTube.

The AI video narrates in detail the traditions and rituals of Shrimandir, including the Rath Yatra and Snana Yatra, emphasizing that conducting these festivals on unprescribed (non-scriptural) dates is not acceptable. It highlights the sanctity and detailed procedures associated with these sacred events.

The release programme was attended by Dr. Narayan Mahapatra, Bharati Bhushan Pattanayak, Trilochan Nayak, Arun Biswal (convener of Anakar Gadi Brahma Temple), Dhuleswar Mallik, Debadatta Biswal, Ashish Khuntia, Shiva Prasad Mohanty, Bijay Panda, Srinivas Rao, Chakradhar Majhi and others.

The various adornments (beshas) of Lord Jagannath were described as exceptionally beautiful. Speakers stated that Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath is not merely an idol but a living deity. Similarly, the ‘Seva Niti’ of Shrimandir is not just an administrative schedule; it is the spiritual grammar of the Odia community. Everyone must understand that divine rituals are not optional arrangements. They form a sacred discipline that preserves the dignity of the Lord and the spiritual environment of the temple.
The nearly 200-year-old Anakar Gadi Brahma tradition at Astaranga, which had remained discontinued for about 40 years, has been revived this year, bringing great joy to the villagers, who extended full cooperation.

Amid the ongoing debate across Odisha regarding the conduct of Rath Yatra on non-traditional dates, Jagannath devotees — and even the Gajapati Maharaja — have expressed that holding Rath Yatra on un-scriptural tithis is inappropriate. Questions have been raised about how the established daily rituals (Nitya Niti) can be altered. It was urged that the government and administration frame clear guidelines ensuring that no compromise is made with the sacred ‘Nitya Niti.’
