Preparations Begin in Nabarangpur with Census 2027 Training Session

Nabarangpur. Feb, 11: A discussion and preparatory training programme for Census 2027 was held at the Ashok Mehta Conference Hall of the District Collector’s office under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain.

Additional District Magistrate (General) Tapan Kumar Khuntia, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Barman, and Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra were present at the meeting. Deputy Director Jayakrishna Bhoi from the Directorate of Census Operations, Bhubaneswar, delivered a detailed presentation through PPT on the government’s approach, preparations, steps, and procedures for Census 2027.

This will be the 16th Census of India and the 8th Census after Independence. The District Collector will serve as the Principal Census Officer for the district. A total of 12 Census Charge Officers, along with around 3,300 enumerators and supervisors, will be engaged in the census work until its completion. These enumerators and supervisors will be trained by Master Trainers.

For the first time, the Census will be conducted in digital mode. Citizens will, for the first time, be able to fill in responses to 33 personal questions related to the Census digitally through a designated mobile app between 1 April 2026 and 15 April 2026.

In the first phase in the district, house listing and housing census activities will be conducted from 16 April 2026 to 15 May 2026. In the second phase, enumerators will visit households door-to-door from 9 February 2027 to 28 February 2027 to conduct the population enumeration. Those wishing to make corrections to their personal data will be allowed to do so between 1 March 2027 and 5 March 2027.

The Census will collect data on housing, economic status, education, and various other aspects, which will help in policy planning and ensuring good governance in the country. Census officers will review and monitor the process through the CSSS portal and take necessary steps.

District-level officers, all Tahasildars and Additional Tahasildars, Executive Officers of Nabarangpur and Umerkote Municipalities, officials associated with the Census, and media representatives were present at the meeting.
