Nabarangpur, Feb, 13:The National Road Safety Month 2026 celebration was organized at the premises of the local Regional Transport Office. The event was graced by Nabarangpur MLA Gauri Shankar Majhi as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests included District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain, Additional Superintendent of Police Aditya Sen, Vice-President of the Nilachal Legal Service Committee Nrusingh Tripathy, DLSA member and lawyer Kishori Pattnaik, Urban Primary Health Center Officer Dr. Priya Ranjan Nanda, and Tulsiram Majhi, Officer-in-Charge of the Life Insurance Corporation, Nabarangpur branch.
The event was conducted by District Road Safety Committee convener and Regional Transport Officer Jitendra Kumar Bhui. In his address, the honorable MLA advised everyone to follow road safety rules and drive vehicles carefully in compliance with regulations.
The District Collector emphasized the importance of always being alert while driving, wearing helmets, using seatbelts, and prioritizing safe travel, warning against distractions. Senior lawyer Nrusingh Tripathy spoke about special preventive measures to avoid accidents. Lawyer Kishori Pattnaik highlighted laws related to motor vehicles (Motor Vehicle Act, 1988), hit-and-run cases, and other accident-related legal assistance.
Health officer Dr. Nanda honored school students who participated in painting and slogan competitions to raise awareness about road safety. Good Samaritans who helped accident victims reach hospitals—Uttam Raut, Tihya Utra, Min Hari Jan, Duryodhan, Akash Marth, and Gangadhar Patra—were awarded ₹2,000 each along with certificates.
The ceremony was attended by members of the District Road Safety Committee, road safety officers, R&B engineers (Roads & Buildings), District Information & Public Relations Officer Manoj Behera, traffic sub-inspector Abhinas Bal, representatives of drivers’ associations, bus union workers, vehicle drivers, students of R.C.D. schools, teachers, and media representatives.
