Bhubaneswar, Feb, 16: The Budget Session of the State Legislative Assembly will begin from February 17. The session will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will run from February 17 to February 24, and the second phase will continue from March 9 to April 8. Altogether, there will be 29 working days in this budget session.
On the fourth day (February 20), the State Budget for the financial year 2026–27 will be presented in the Assembly by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who is in charge of the Finance Department. On the opening da y of the session, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will address the House. A motion of thanks on the Governor’s address will be moved, followed by discussion over the next two days.
This will be the third consecutive time that the Chief Minister will present the annual budget in the House. In the 2024–25 financial year, the state government had presented a budget of Rs 2.65 lakh crore. Out of this, Rs 97,725 crore was allocated for administrative expenditure, Rs 1,55,551 crore for programme expenditure, Rs 3,900 crore for disaster mitigation, and Rs 8,375 crore for other expenses.

Likely Discussion Issues: Paddy procurement, farmers’ and unemployment issues, education reforms, and law and order.
The upcoming budget size is expected to exceed Rs 3.25 lakh crore.
