Nabarangpur,Feb, 28: The district administration of Nabarangpur has prevented a child marriage that was being arranged in the Khatiguda police station area under Tentulikhunti block.
According to reports, preparations for the child marriage were underway in the Khatiguda area, and arrangements for the feast had already been made. However, officials from Shobha voluntary organization, Childline, and the police administration reached the spot in time and stopped the marriage, informed District Social Welfare Officer Draupadi Kanhar.
During the intervention, the Tentulikhunti CDPO, supervisor, Shobha district coordinator Uma Satnami, Manchagaon PEO, Childline coordinator Chinmayee Nayak, and Khatiguda police officials were present.
As the girl to be married was a minor, she was produced before the Child Welfare Committee in Nabarangpur and later placed in a short-stay home.
Since Nabarangpur district ranks number one in Odisha in cases of child marriage, District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain has called for strict measures to completely eradicate the practice. He has also directed that legal action be taken if necessary.
