Kotpad,Mar, 20: A demand has been made to upgrade the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kotpad to a Sub-Divisional Hospital. In this regard, Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhatra raised the issue in the Odisha Legislative Assembly yesterday.
Earlier, the Sub-Divisional Hospital was functioning at Jeypore. However, after the District Headquarters Hospital was shifted and upgraded there, confusion has arisen regarding the location of the Sub-Divisional Hospital.
MLA Bhatra stated in the Assembly that since Kotpad is a bordering block and caters to areas including Borigumma, Kundura, Baipariguda, and Kotpad, there is a strong need to establish a Sub-Divisional Hospital at Kotpad.
Although the infrastructure of the Kotpad CHC is strong, a shortage of required doctors has led to irregularities in healthcare services. Currently, a new building for the Mother and Child Health (MCH) wing is under construction.
Due to inadequate medical facilities, many patients from the area are compelled to seek treatment in neighboring Chhattisgarh. The MLA argued that granting Sub-Divisional Hospital status to Kotpad CHC would improve healthcare access for residents and help fill necessary doctor vacancies.
It is reported that the Health Minister has assured that the matter will be examined and an appropriate decision will be taken.
