Survey Completed for Proposed Multi-Storey Shopping Mall at Daily Market, Project Backed by rs10 Crore Grant

Nabarangpur, March 20: A multi-storey shopping mall will be constructed within the premises of the Krushak (Farmers’) Market in Nabarangpur. For this purpose, a grant of rs10 crore has been sanctioned by the concerned department. The survey has already been completed, and after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is prepared, it will be sent to the Housing and Urban Development Department for approval.
Due to lack of use, the Sanjay Daily Market has now turned into a hub for anti-social activities. For the past nine years, 30 stalls inside the daily market have remained unused. The condition of the existing platforms is hazardous. As there is no separate market in the town for non-vegetarian vendors and since this market is non-functional, meat is being sold at various road junctions across the town.
Considering the maintenance of such a large space located in the heart of the town and the need for immediate construction of a new shopping mall, former Daily Market President Rakesh Gupta has demanded swift action. Councillor A. Satish stated that discussions have already been held in the municipal meeting regarding demolition of the entire market and construction of a new structure.
On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, President Kahnu Das informed that a memorandum has also been submitted demanding construction of the shopping mall. Supporting the proposal of the townspeople, MLA Gaurishankar Majhi informed the State Housing and Urban Development Department, following which the state government sanctioned ₹10 crore for the new shopping mall, said Municipal Executive Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar Karta.
As per the state government’s direction, a technical team has visited and surveyed the daily market site. Once the DPR is finalized, it will be sent for approval.
