Surendra Singh Secures Victory in Khanua Sarpanch By-poll

Badasahi,April 07:: In the Sarpanch by-election held on March 31 in Khanua Panchayat under Badasahi Block, BJD-supported candidate Surendra Singh emerged victorious.
He won by a margin of 180 votes. Surendra Singh secured 653 votes, while his nearest rival, BJP-supported candidate Gopinath Beshra, received 473 votes and was defeated. The result has created enthusiasm in the BJD camp, and it has also sparked discussions among the general public and party workers.
Despite strong efforts, the opposition failed to succeed in this election. Reacting to his victory, Surendra Singh said that although the tenure of this by-election is only about 8 months, he will do his best to work for the people.
It is worth mentioning that around one and a half years ago, the former Sarpanch Jitendra Singh passed away untimely, leaving the post vacant. Since then, the Naib Sarpanch had been managing responsibilities as acting Sarpanch.
After the election notification was issued, March 5, 6, and 7 were fixed as the dates for filing nominations. Within this period, Karunakar Singh, Gopinath Beshra, Sunimani Singh, Surendra Singh, and Dalgobinda Behera filed their nominations. However, during scrutiny on March 8, Dalgobinda’s nomination was rejected, and the final list on March 9 included the remaining four candidates.
The panchayat has 12 wards with a total of 3,109 voters, out of which 1,755 votes were cast. It was reported that 55 votes were declared invalid.
