Heatwave Crisis Intensifies, Schools Shut in 13 Districts Amid Rising Health Concerns

Bhubaneswar, April 21: Due to the ongoing heatwave across Odisha, school holidays have been declared in several districts. As of this evening, schools in 13 districts—including government, government-aided, private schools, and higher secondary institutions—have been closed for students.
However, previously scheduled examinations will continue as planned. Teachers will still attend schools and may also be engaged in census-related duties as per instructions from district administrations. These decisions have been taken by District Education Officers (DEOs) under the direction of the respective District Collectors, based on local conditions.
Although some private schools are considering conducting online classes, no official directive has been issued by the government regarding this.

Final decisions are being taken by District Collectors based on ground conditions
Exams and census-related work will continue
In Khordha district, all schools (from kindergarten to Class 12) will remain closed from April 20 to 23. However, supplementary exams for Classes 5 and 8 will continue with safety measures in place.
Authorities have instructed schools to ensure:
Adequate drinking water
ORS (Oral Rehydration Solutions)
First-aid facilities
Proper ventilation
At the same time, essential school activities like admissions, administrative work, and census duties will continue.

Nayagarh: Schools closed from April 20 to 23
Deogarh: Schools closed as per latest notification
Mayurbhanj: Holiday from April 20 to 23
Nabarangpur: Schools closed from April 20 until further notice
Bargarh: Schools, colleges, technical institutes, and anganwadis closed
Boudh: Holiday extended till April 22
Additionally, schools have been closed in:
Sambalpur
Nuapada
Jharsuguda
Kalahandi
Balangir
Subarnapur
Further decisions will be taken depending on how the weather conditions evolve.
