Baripada, Apr 27(BNP): In a significant boost to wildlife conservation, authorities of Odisha’s Similipal National Park have confirmed the entry of an adult male Royal Bengal Tiger into the core area of the reserve. Officials believe the tiger may continue to stay in the protected habitat.
Similipal Tiger Reserve Field Director Prakash Chand Gogineni said the tiger entered Odisha during December-January through Sundargarh district from the Chhattisgarh side. It later moved through Deogarh and Dhenkanal districts before reaching Similipal.
The presence of the tiger was recorded through trap cameras installed in forest areas as part of tiger monitoring and census activities. While officials could not confirm the exact state of origin or the total distance covered by the animal, they identified it as a fully grown male tiger.
Regarding its current location, officials expressed hope that the tiger remains within the Similipal core area, though confirmation will depend on further monitoring. Additional trap cameras are expected to be installed during the coming December-January period for tracking purposes.
Calling it a positive development, Gogineni said the arrival of a tiger from another region reflects the rich biodiversity and ecological strength of Similipal, which continues to attract wildlife from distant areas.
Similipal Tiger Reserve is globally known for its rare melanistic (black) tigers.
