International Red Cross Day Celebrated by Jharsuguda District Administration Honouring the Spirit of Compassion and Voluntary Service

Jharsuguda, May 11:: International Red Cross Day was celebrated by the district administration and the district Red Cross branch at the District Mineral Fund Auditorium located in the office of the District Collector. The theme for this year was “Humanity and Unity.”
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Additional District Magistrate (General) Brajabandhu Bhoi highlighted the importance of the Red Cross’s humanitarian activities, sacrifice, and compassion. He stated that there is a need to bring about a change in mindset and develop a spirit of selfless service while extending a helping hand to every individual in society. On the occasion, he also discussed the history of the Red Cross, its service to humanity, and its contribution to society, urging everyone through various examples to participate in social service activities.
District Chief Agriculture Officer Pradeep Kumar Nanda attended the event as an honoured guest and appealed to people to cultivate selfless service, kindness, and compassion, and to support others in need.
District Child Protection Officer Sunanda Maharana, another distinguished guest, encouraged people to engage in social service activities at their own level and assist in resolving the grievances and problems of the general public.
Assistant District Magistrate and Red Cross Branch official Mrutyunjaya Shabar delivered the welcome address and explained the significance and objectives of the day while coordinating the programme.
At the conclusion of the programme, District Information and Public Relations Officer Ritakanta Baliyar Singh delivered the vote of thanks.
During the event, discussions were also held on the history and functioning of the Red Cross organisation. Participants stated that since its establishment in 1863, the organisation has consistently played a leading role in humanitarian service during disasters, blood donation, health awareness, and assistance to vulnerable people.
It was further explained that the primary objective of the Red Cross is to serve humanity and support distressed people. Everyone was made aware of the organisation’s core principles — humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. People were also encouraged to take greater interest in social service and blood donation activities.
