Mumbai, May 22: Sankara Eye Foundation India has been recognized by the Asia Book of Records for conducting the Maximum Free Eye Surgeries Under a Single Vision Programme by an Organization. The recognition marks a significant milestone in the foundation’s mission to eliminate avoidable blindness across India.

From March 2004 to March 31, 2026, the foundation provided free eye care services to nearly 30 lakh patients through its large-scale humanitarian initiatives, restoring vision and improving the quality of life for underserved communities across the country. The initiative was undertaken with a commitment to making quality eye care accessible to all, irrespective of socio-economic background, while also inspiring healthcare institutions and organizations to undertake similar impactful programmes.

Founded on the principle of compassionate and affordable healthcare, Sankara Eye Foundation India today operates through a robust network of eye hospitals and outreach centres across the country. The organization currently performs close to 1,000 eye surgeries every day through its 14 locations spread across 10 states, combining scale with high standards of clinical excellence.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr. R. V. Ramani, Founder and Managing Trustee said “This recognition by the Asia Book of Records is a proud and humbling moment for all of us at Sankara Eye Foundation India. Since inception, we have been driven by a single purpose — to eliminate curable blindness. Performing over 3 million free eye surgeries is not just a milestone, but a reflection of the trust placed in us by millions of patients and communities across India. Today, our network performs nearly 1,000 surgeries every day across 14 locations in 10 states, demonstrating that scale and quality can go hand in hand in delivering impactful healthcare.”

The recognition ceremony was held recently in Mumbai in the presence of dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and supporters of the foundation’s mission.
