Electoral Inclusion Drive Targets Bonda and Didayi Primitive Tribal Groups Through Special SVEEP Awareness Programme in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, June 20: {UDN}:: Following the directives of the Election Commission of India, the Malkangiri District Administration has organized an extensive and marathon awareness campaign under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR-2026) of the electoral rolls.

The primary objective of this large-scale initiative is to ensure that 100 percent of eligible citizens belonging to primitive tribal communities living in the district’s most remote and hilly regions are included in the democratic electoral process. The administration has undertaken this special drive to reach communities that remain geographically isolated and socially distant from mainstream society, particularly the Bonda, Didayi, and Koya tribal groups, and to educate them about their voting rights and democratic responsibilities.

Special awareness camps were organized in several Gram Panchayats of Khairput and Podia Blocks, where local residents were encouraged to exercise their constitutional right to vote. The campaign aimed to motivate eligible individuals to enroll themselves in the voter list and actively participate in the democratic process.

The mega awareness initiative was conducted under the direct leadership and supervision of Malkangiri Sub-Collector and District SVEEP Nodal Officer Duryodhan Bhoi. As part of the outreach program, several senior district and block-level administrative officials visited remote tribal villages and interacted directly with the local population.
During the campaign, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Khairput, who also serves as the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), along with the Tahasildar of Kudumulugumma, also functioning as an AERO, participated in the program and highlighted various aspects of electoral roll preparation and revision.

They were joined by Ashwini Kumar Mahapatra, BDO of Podia and AERO; K. Ashok Chakraborty, Additional District Magistrate and AERO of Malkangiri; and Ajaya Mandangi, Assistant District Magistrate in the Sub-Collector’s Office. These officials explained in simple and easy-to-understand language how eligible citizens could get their names included in the voter list.
To ensure effective outreach among the Bonda tribal community, the Project Director of the Bonda Development Agency at Mudulipada, along with his entire team, actively participated in the campaign. Special attention was given to the language, traditions, and cultural sensitivities of the tribal communities while explaining the significance of voting in a democracy. Officials emphasized that every single vote carries immense value and plays an important role in shaping governance.
The awareness camps also included demonstrations and practical guidance on:

Registration of new voters,

Deletion of names of deceased or permanently shifted voters,
Correction of errors in voter identity cards and electoral records.
The collective and determined efforts of the Malkangiri District Administration were widely appreciated by the local tribal communities. Community members expressed their willingness to verify their names in the voter list and participate actively in future electoral exercises.
According to the District SVEEP Nodal Officer, the administration’s fundamental goal is to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of their democratic right to vote, regardless of how remote or inaccessible their location may be. The campaign reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive democracy and equal electoral participation for all sections of society, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized tribal communities.
