June 29: Renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik created a striking sand sculpture at Puri Beach to mark Snana Purnima, the sacred bathing festival of Lord Jagannath, drawing attention to the spiritual essence of the occasion.

The artwork prominently depicts Lord Jagannath along with the devotional message “Jai Jagannath,” reflecting reverence for one of the most significant rituals in the Jagannath temple tradition. The sculpture has become a major attraction for devotees and visitors gathered at the beach during the festival.
Snana Purnima, observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, marks the ceremonial bathing of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Sudarshan in a public ritual that precedes the annual Rath Yatra festivities.
Speaking about his creation, Sudarsan Pattnaik said that devotees from across the world visit Puri to witness the divine Snana Yatra, and through his sand art he aims to spread a message of devotion, unity, and the timeless cultural heritage of Mahaprabhu Jagannath.
Pattnaik, known globally for his sand sculptures on social and religious themes, continues his tradition of creating themed artworks during major festivals at Puri Beach, attracting large crowds of devotees, tourists, and art enthusiasts.
His latest creation for Snana Purnima has further enriched the festive atmosphere, reflecting the deep spiritual fervour and cultural significance associated with the grand bathing ceremony of the Holy Trinity.
