Ganjam Police Bust Interstate Ganja Smuggling Racket; 100 Kg Contraband Seized, Four Arrested
Berhampur, June 29 (UDN): In a major breakthrough against interstate narcotics trafficking, Ganjam Police have busted a ganja smuggling racket and seized nearly 100 kilograms of cannabis concealed inside a specially fabricated secret chamber in a luxury Ford Endeavour SUV. Four persons allegedly involved in the illegal trade have been arrested.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted the vehicle in the Badagada police station area and carried out a detailed search operation. During the inspection, officers discovered a sophisticated hidden compartment custom-built beneath the SUV’s chassis, which was allegedly being used to transport the contraband without raising suspicion.
The seized vehicle, bearing registration number GJ-01 KQ-7624, was reportedly carrying the consignment to Gujarat. Police also confiscated two Apache motorcycles suspected to have been used to escort and facilitate the movement of the SUV.
Officials estimated the value of the seized ganja at around Rs 10 lakh in the illegal market. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the consignment originated from Naktiri village under Badagada police limits and was being transported through Berhampur as part of an interstate supply chain.
Police suspect the involvement of a larger organised network and have launched an extensive investigation to identify the suppliers, transport coordinators and intended recipients of the contraband. Further raids and arrests are likely as investigators examine electronic evidence and other materials seized during the operation.
The seizure is being viewed as a significant success in Ganjam Police’s ongoing crackdown on interstate narcotics trafficking.
