Sambalpur, July 1 (UDN): The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested two employees of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, after separate investigations allegedly revealed assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The arrested employees have been identified as Dhanurdhar Biswal, Establishment Officer-cum-Office Superintendent, and Aswini Meher, Steward in the Office of the Superintendent at VIMSAR. Both were booked under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, following simultaneous searches conducted at multiple locations linked to them.
According to Vigilance officials, searches at premises associated with Biswal led to the detection of extensive movable and immovable assets, including two residential buildings—one of them multi-storeyed—32 plots, cash exceeding ₹19.72 lakh, over 83 grams of gold, bank deposits of more than ₹39 lakh, two Hyva trucks, two tractors, a four-wheeler and other investments. Investigators alleged that he could not satisfactorily explain the source of the assets.
In a separate case, searches at locations linked to Meher allegedly unearthed three buildings, including a multi-storeyed house, a store room, 10 plots of land, around 83 grams of gold and other assets suspected to be disproportionate to his known income. Vigilance officials said he also failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the wealth detected during the searches.
Separate cases have been registered at the Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station, and both accused are scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Judge (Vigilance), Sambalpur.
The Vigilance Directorate said further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the assets allegedly amassed by the two employees and to examine whether additional evidence or financial irregularities emerge during the course of the probe.
