Bhubaneswar, July 2 {UDN}: In view of the ongoing monsoon season and the possibility of heavy rainfall, the Urban Development Department has rolled out a comprehensive action plan to tackle rain-related challenges across urban areas. All municipal corporations, municipalities, and notified area councils have been placed on high alert and directed to remain fully prepared for any emergency.
The department has instructed civic authorities to maintain continuous surveillance over critical infrastructure, particularly drainage systems, roads, low-lying areas, and flood-prone locations. Special emphasis has been laid on the regular cleaning and desilting of drains to prevent waterlogging, while officials have been asked to ensure that rainwater is drained out quickly during heavy showers.
Municipal bodies have also been directed to deploy emergency response teams, keep pumping equipment and essential machinery ready, and monitor vulnerable areas round the clock. Field staff have been instructed to respond immediately to complaints related to blocked drains, overflowing sewage, damaged roads, fallen trees, and other monsoon-related issues.
The Urban Development Department has made it clear that there will be strict monitoring of civic preparedness throughout the rainy season. The primary objective of the action plan is to minimize public inconvenience, prevent urban flooding, ensure smooth traffic movement, and safeguard public health and safety during periods of intense rainfall.
