Bhubaneswar, July 3 (UDN): The Odisha Government has directed government schools across the state to clear all outstanding electricity bills within seven days, warning that failure to comply will invite administrative action against the concerned authorities.
The directive has been issued by the School and Mass Education Department following reports of mounting electricity arrears in several educational institutions, raising concerns over uninterrupted power supply and the smooth functioning of schools.
All Block Education Officers (BEOs) have been instructed to review the status of pending electricity dues under their jurisdiction and ensure that the outstanding amounts are cleared within the stipulated deadline. They have also been asked to closely monitor compliance and submit status reports to the department.
The department has cautioned that disciplinary action may be initiated against officials responsible for delays or negligence in clearing the dues. The move is aimed at preventing disruption of electricity services in schools and ensuring that classrooms, laboratories, digital learning facilities and other essential infrastructure continue to function without interruption.
Officials said timely payment of electricity bills is crucial for maintaining a conducive learning environment, particularly as schools increasingly rely on digital teaching tools, smart classrooms and other power-dependent educational facilities.
The School and Mass Education Department has urged all district and block-level education authorities to treat the matter as a priority and ensure full compliance within the prescribed timeframe.
