Bhubaneswar, July 10: With the arrival of the monsoon season, citizens are being urged to become part of the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign and contribute towards conserving one of nature’s most valuable resources — water.

The campaign encourages people, communities, and institutions to adopt simple yet effective measures to capture rainwater, recharge groundwater, and build a sustainable water future.

As part of the initiative, households, residential societies, and workplaces are encouraged to install rainwater harvesting systems to collect and store rainwater. Citizens are also being encouraged to develop recharge pits and recharge shafts wherever possible, while restoring unused tube wells to improve groundwater availability.

The campaign places special emphasis on protecting traditional water sources such as ponds, wells, and local water bodies. Restoring these resources and removing accumulated silt can increase their storage capacity, allowing them to hold more rainwater and support communities during periods of water shortage.

Increasing green cover is another key focus area, with citizens encouraged to plant more trees around water conservation zones. More vegetation not only supports groundwater recharge but also helps maintain ecological balance.

The ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign highlights that every drop saved today can make a difference tomorrow. Through collective participation and responsible water management, communities can help protect water resources and create a more sustainable environment for future generations.
