Bhubaneswar, Aug 10 [UDN}:The Odisha government will release flood damage assistance after receiving detailed assessment reports from the affected districts, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.
The Minister said that a review meeting will be held after the damage assessment reports are submitted. Based on the findings, further decisions regarding relief and compensation will be taken.
The state government has already provided ₹110 crore as flood assistance to 22 districts affected by the recent floods. The financial aid will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Among the worst-affected districts are Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur, where extensive damage to houses, infrastructure, agriculture, and public property has been reported. In several districts, floodwaters have still not fully receded, causing difficulties for residents.
The Minister stated that water levels in several rivers are yet to return to normal, and drainage of floodwater is still underway in many areas. The administration continues to monitor the situation and carry out relief operations in affected regions.
According to preliminary information, Odisha has received around 65% more rainfall than normal, which contributed to the severe flooding situation across several districts. The government is closely assessing the extent of losses before releasing further assistance.
