Diversions to remain in force around Mahatma Gandhi Marg; commuters advised to plan travel in advance
Bhubaneswar, Aug. 11 (UDN): The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has announced a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the State-level Independence Day Parade 2026, imposing restrictions and diversions on Mahatma Gandhi Marg and adjoining areas to ensure smooth conduct of rehearsals and the main celebrations.
The traffic arrangements will remain in effect during parade rehearsals on August 11, 12 and 13, and on August 15, when the official Independence Day function will be held.
According to the advisory, restrictions will be enforced on August 11 and 12 from 2:30 PM to 6 PM, on August 13 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and on August 15 from 6 AM until the conclusion of the parade and related events.

Traffic Diversions Around PMG and Master Canteen
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to move towards Master Canteen Square from either the Ram Mandir or Rajmahal sides during the restricted period.
Two-wheelers and light motor vehicles will be permitted to travel only from the Rajmahal side towards Ram Mandir via Master Canteen Square. However, no vehicle movement will be allowed from Master Canteen Square towards PMG Square until the event concludes.
Vehicles heading towards Rabindra Mandap from the Housing Board side will be diverted at Keshari Talkies Square, while traffic moving towards PMG from AG Square will be redirected at Jaydev Bhawan Square towards the IDCOL Auditorium route.
Similarly, vehicles approaching from the 120 Battalion Square side will be diverted towards Unit-IV at the MLA Colony crossing.
Police have also announced that all connecting lanes leading to Mahatma Gandhi Marg will remain closed to vehicular traffic, with only pedestrians being allowed access.
Special Parking Arrangements
To facilitate visitors, the Commissionerate Police has earmarked parking spaces at several locations, including:
BDA Bus Stand near Railway Station
Open space in front of Congress Bhawan
Areas near IDCOL Auditorium and Jaydev Bhawan
Open space near SBI, Unit-III
Rabindra Mandap premises
Unit-II Girls’ High School Ground
Gas Balloon Sale Prohibited
The sale of gas balloons will remain prohibited between PMG Square and Master Canteen Square on August 15 from 6 AM until the end of the state-level parade.
The traffic regulations have been issued under provisions of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008.
Police have urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure smooth movement and successful conduct of the Independence Day celebrations. Violations of the restrictions may attract legal action under the relevant provisions of the law.
