Kotpad: Aug 19 [UDN}:World Indigenous Day was observed with enthusiasm in Kotpad on August 9. On the occasion, members of various tribal communities organised a procession from Kenduguda to the Kotpad Tehsil Office and submitted an 11-point memorandum to the Tehsildar, addressed to Hon’ble President of India Droupadi Murmu.
The programme continued at the Kotpad Bhatra Samaj Sangh office, where floral tributes were paid to the statue of freedom fighter Shaheed Laxman Nayak. A meeting was subsequently organised under the chairmanship of Mangaraj Randhari, Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the Kotpad Bhatra community.
Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhatra attended the programme as the chief guest. Former MLA Chandrasekhar Majhi, Congress MLA candidate Anamu Dian, Sada Dian, Durua Samaj president Meera Chalan, Nilakantha Pujari, Tribal Association Block President Bipin Bihari Chalan and Mohan Nayak were among those present.
Representatives of the Kotpad Block and NAC, including sarpanches, panchayat samiti members and Zilla Parishad members, participated actively in the celebration. A large number of tribal community members from across the Kotpad area also attended the programme and extended their full cooperation.
Addressing the gathering, the guests highlighted the importance of tribal unity, preservation of indigenous identity and culture, and education among tribal students. They stressed that education is essential for the social, economic and overall development of tribal communities.
A traditional Durua community dance was also performed during the programme, captivating the guests and participants and adding a strong cultural dimension to the celebration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mohan Nayak delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the World Indigenous Day programme to an end.
