The enforcement action was carried out by the Health Department of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation at Madhupatna Square on Wednesday, where officials reportedly intercepted around 70 quintals of the dairy products.

Consignment Seized at Madhupatna

According to officials, the seized paneer and chhena were allegedly being brought into Cuttack from Niali and Adaspur.

The seizure has raised concerns over the circulation of allegedly synthetic dairy products in the city’s markets, particularly at a time when demand for paneer, chhena and other milk-based products rises ahead of festivals.

Officials reportedly found that the products had allegedly been adulterated using maida and a chemical substance referred to as ‘Paras’.

Entire Stock Destroyed

Following the seizure, the authorities destroyed the entire consignment to prevent it from entering the retail market and reaching consumers.

The estimated value of the destroyed stock has been put at approximately Rs 17 lakh.

Enforcement Drive Intensified

The operation forms part of an ongoing crackdown by civic and health authorities against food adulteration in Cuttack.

With the festive season approaching, enforcement teams are stepping up inspections to detect and prevent the sale of unsafe or adulterated food products.

Officials have stressed the need for continued monitoring of dairy and other food items in the market to protect consumers from potential health risks.
