The Election Commission is now focusing on the remaining cases before the hearing process concludes on September 17. The final electoral roll for Odisha is scheduled to be published on September 21.
According to election officials, 3,09,71,941 electors have so far been found eligible for inclusion in the final roll. The figure could change as the pending cases are examined and disposed of.
Over 58 lakh records came under scrutiny
As part of the revision exercise, records of 58,36,430 electors were identified for verification due to logical discrepancies and unmapping issues.
Officials said notices were successfully served to 58,36,374 electors among those whose records required scrutiny. Following the verification process, 54,21,872 voters have been allowed to remain on the electoral rolls.
The cases that are yet to be resolved will continue to be examined during the hearing process, which is scheduled to end on September 17.
Thousands seek new registrations and corrections
The SIR exercise has also witnessed a significant number of applications for addition and correction of names in the electoral roll.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Laxmi Prasad Sahu said authorities received 2,79,315 Form 6 applications from people seeking inclusion as new voters.
Meanwhile, 53,625 Form 7 applications were submitted for deletion of names, including cases involving duplicate entries and deceased voters.
Another 1,97,952 Form 8 applications were received seeking corrections in electoral particulars such as names, addresses and ages. Some applicants also requested that members of the same family be assigned to a common polling station.
Officials told to ensure no genuine voter is left out
The applications are currently being scrutinised by officials at the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer level. Voters who have received notices will be required to establish their eligibility through valid documents or rectify discrepancies in their records.
Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan has directed election officials to ensure that the revision process maintains a balance between removing ineligible entries and protecting the rights of genuine electors.
With the hearings nearing completion, the electoral machinery is working towards finalising the revised rolls ahead of the September 21 publication deadline, which will mark the completion of the current phase of the voter-list revision in Odisha.
