Jharsuguda: Aug 26 [UDN}:A voter awareness programme was organised today by the Electoral Literacy Club at Jharsuguda Women’s College under the Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency. The programme aimed to educate young voters, particularly first-time voters, about the importance of participating actively, responsibly and ethically in the democratic process.
Jharsuguda Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Sub-Collector Sabyasachi Panda, along with Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) and Jharsuguda Municipal Executive Officer Nishikant Tete, attended the programme and addressed the students. A large number of students, along with faculty members of the college, actively participated in the awareness camp.
During the programme, the participating students were sensitised about the significance of sincere and ethical participation in the electoral and democratic process. The speakers highlighted the crucial role of every individual vote in a democracy and explained how the electoral rights and responsibilities guaranteed by the Constitution contribute to strengthening democracy and nation-building.
ERO Sabyasachi Panda also provided detailed information to the young participants regarding the procedure for registering their names in the electoral roll. He explained the ongoing Special Revision of the Electoral Roll and the steps that eligible young citizens need to follow to get themselves enrolled as voters.
Emphasising the importance of youth participation in elections, Panda urged every eligible citizen who has attained the age of 18 years to ensure that their name is included in the electoral roll and to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The programme served as an important initiative to create greater electoral awareness among college students and encourage young citizens to become informed, responsible and active participants in the democratic process.
