From Fields to Markets: Odisha’s Agricultural Production and Effective Marketing Create Livelihood Opportunities and Strengthen Family Economies

Bhubaneswar,  Sept 2 [UDN}:Odisha is widely known as an agrarian state. Along with the production of agricultural commodities, their marketing and sale have helped many families across the state become economically self-reliant.

There are immense opportunities for agriculture and horticulture in the Chilika and Banapur blocks under the Chilika Assembly constituency of Khordha district. Keeping this in view, I chaired a review meeting today at the conference hall of the government residence to discuss various aspects of ensuring comprehensive development of the Chilika constituency in the fields of agriculture and horticulture.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the implementation and current status of various schemes related to agriculture, horticulture and soil conservation being implemented in the region.

The taste and quality of green gram produced in the Banapur area are widely appreciated. Similarly, the saline coastal areas of Chilika offer good potential for coconut cultivation. Considering these local opportunities, emphasis was laid on increasing the production of fruits, vegetables, paddy and Shree Anna (millets) that have high market demand.

Discussions were also held on establishing cold storage facilities at suitable locations for crop preservation, promoting greater research into organic farming, and expanding flower cultivation, mushroom farming and animal-feed production in the region.

The meeting was attended by Khordha Chief District Agriculture Officer Manoranjan Mishra, Assistant Director of Horticulture Shreya Shashwati, Soil Conservation Project Director Srushti Nanda, along with other senior district-level officials.
