“Drug-Free” Slogan Gains Greater Relevance as Debate Continues Over the Inclusion of Solid, Gaseous and Liquid Intoxicating Substances

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4 [UDN}:The slogan “Drug-Free” is undoubtedly timely and highly relevant. It can make a significant contribution towards building a healthy society and a developed India. But does the term “drug” refer only to solid and gaseous substances, or does it include liquid substances as well?

If liquid intoxicants are included, then alcohol—which is one of the most widely consumed intoxicating substances—should also come under the scope of a “drug-free” campaign, shouldn’t it?

Or does “drug-free” refer only to so-called dry drugs, such as ganja (cannabis), bhang, charas (hashish), opium, heroin (“brown sugar”) and other narcotic substances?

The question is essentially about whether a truly “drug-free” society should address all forms of intoxicants, including alcohol, rather than focusing exclusively on illegal narcotic drugs.
