Malkangiri, Sept 7 [UDN}:National Sports Day 2026 was celebrated across Malkangiri district with the organisation of the ‘One Hour on the Playground’ campaign, under the joint initiative of the Malkangiri District Administration and the Department of Sports and Youth Services.
The campaign was organised extensively in all schools across the district as well as at the Malkangiri Multipurpose Indoor Stadium. The main objective of the initiative was to promote physical fitness and develop greater interest in sports among the younger generation and students.
As part of the district-level celebration, a badminton competition was organised at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium. Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Somnath Pradhan attended the programme as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the competition.
District Sports Officer Muna Turuk, the Officer-in-Charge of Malkangiri Model Police Station, and senior journalist Deb Prasad Das attended as distinguished guests and encouraged the participating players.
The entire programme was conducted smoothly under the active cooperation and direct supervision of all staff members of the District Sports Office.
On the occasion, the Additional District Magistrate delivered a special message to sportspersons and the youth, stating that sports are not merely a means of entertainment but also play an important role in promoting discipline, good health and unity in life. He emphasised that every student should spend at least one hour daily on the playground to help build a healthy and progressive society.
During the second phase of the programme, sportspersons and successful players from different parts of the district were felicitated by the administration for their remarkable performances.
A large number of sports enthusiasts, teachers, students from various schools and members of the local community participated in the campaign and contributed to the success of the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the District Sports Office.
