Jeypore,Sept 7 [UDN}: Vikram Dev University, Jeypore, Koraput district, successfully organized various educational, literary and cultural programmes on August 29, 2026, as part of Sanskrit Week celebrations. The main objective of the event was to create awareness and interest among students about the glorious tradition of the Sanskrit language, the Indian knowledge tradition, culture and heritage.
The programme was held at Seminar Hall-I of the university, where students participated in speech, essay-writing, shloka recitation and quiz competitions.
In the speech competition, students expressed their views on topics such as “New Education Policy and the Revival of Sanskrit.” In the essay competition, participants wrote on “Sanskrit Language: The Foundation of Indian Culture.” Students also participated enthusiastically in the shloka recitation and quiz competitions.
Later, a special meeting and discussion session was organized at the Faculty Room-II. Professor Hrushikesh Senapati, Vice-Chancellor of Vikram Dev University, attended the event as the chief guest and chaired the session.
In his presidential address, Professor Senapati highlighted the importance of Sanskrit, the need to preserve the Indian knowledge tradition, and the relevance of Sanskrit in the modern education system. He stated that Sanskrit is not merely an ancient language but an important carrier of Indian philosophy, literature, science and culture.
Naveen Kumar Pradhan, Professor, Department of Sanskrit, Central University of Odisha, Koraput, attended the meeting as the guest of honour. In his address, he spoke about the historical and cultural significance of Sanskrit and its relevance in contemporary society.
Professor Nrusinha Charan Panda, Head of the Department of Sanskrit and former Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Odisha, attended as the keynote speaker. He delivered a detailed and fact-based discussion on various aspects of the Sanskrit language and the Indian knowledge tradition. He emphasized the need for the younger generation to study Sanskrit and highlighted its wide-ranging possibilities.
University Registrar Maheswar Chandra Nayak, Controller of Examinations Ranjan Kumar Pradhan and Dr Prashant Kumar Patra were also present and added to the significance of the programme.
Faculty members, researchers, staff and a large number of students attended the event. The entire programme reflected the students’ enthusiasm and growing interest in the Sanskrit language.
The celebration of Sanskrit Week was regarded as an important initiative towards taking the glory of Sanskrit and the Indian knowledge tradition to the younger generation.
