Khordha Teacher Gives Gift of Life to Three Through Organ Donation

Pratap Kumar Rout (47), a senior teacher at Kumarabasta High School in Khordha district and a resident of Dhansar village under Banki sub-division, suffered a brain stroke after returning home from school on Teachers’ Day.

He was initially rushed to a hospital in Banki before being shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to a private hospital, where he underwent treatment for three days before passing away.

Family Chooses Life Amid Grief

In the midst of their loss, Rout’s family took the remarkable decision to donate his organs. His liver and both eyes were successfully donated, offering a new lease of life to three patients.

The decision has drawn widespread appreciation from local residents, social workers, and members of the teaching community, who have described it as an inspiring example of humanity and selflessness.

Farewell to a Beloved Teacher

Rout is survived by his wife and two sons. His last rites will be performed in his native village.

Students and colleagues at Kumarabasta High School are mourning the loss of a teacher remembered for his dedication and affection towards his students. As a mark of respect for his life-saving contribution, a Guard of Honour will be accorded to him at the private hospital, recognising his final act of generosity through organ donation.
